10"-12" Wide European Oak
Westlake floor plans run 7,000-18,000 sq ft. 10" and 12" wide European oak in lengths up to 87" reads at the right scale across long sightlines and high-ceiling great rooms. Most Westlake specs land on engineered 5/8" or 3/4" construction with 4-6mm wear layer in natural-oil or hard-wax oil finish.
Riva Spain Hardwood — Texas Exclusive
Westlake is one of our strongest Austin markets for Riva Spain. As the only authorized Texas distributor, we've supplied Riva to 20+ Westlake estates since 2020. The slow-grown Spanish oak's tighter grain reads premium against Westlake's modern hill country and transitional design palette.
Reclaimed European Oak for Hill Country Patina
Westlake's modern hill country aesthetic frequently calls for reclaimed European oak — French and Belgian sources with 100+ year patina that pairs cleanly with limestone and steel. Lead time on reclaimed spec runs 10-14 weeks. We coordinate batch consistency at the mill before shipment.
Wide-Plank Site-Finished Solid for Period Work
For period-style and traditional Westlake builds where engineered prefinished doesn't fit the design intent, we supply unfinished solid 3/4" European oak up to 9" wide. We coordinate with site finishers (we have three Austin-area finishers we trust) on stain matching and Rubio Monocoat-compatible sealer specification.
Central Texas Install Considerations for Westlake Homes
Pier-and-beam over limestone
A significant share of Westlake new builds use pier-and-beam foundations over limestone bedrock — different acclimation and moisture profile from Houston's slab construction. Solid hardwood can work on properly ventilated pier-and-beam in central Texas; engineered is still our default recommendation for stability. We assess crawl space conditions before final spec on every Westlake project.
Lower humidity, wider swings
Austin runs lower average humidity than Houston (35-55% RH typical vs Houston's 50-80%), but the swings between summer and winter are sharper in the hill country. Engineered European oak handles these swings without seasonal gapping; solid hardwood needs more careful HVAC tuning. Acclimation periods on Westlake installs run 10-14 days.
Limestone bluff microclimate
Westlake lots sited against limestone bluffs run cooler and drier than lots higher up the ridge. We coordinate moisture readings at the slab/joist level on every Westlake project before delivery — material doesn't ship until we confirm site conditions are within spec.
