Riva Max Collection · Warm Medium-Deep

Riva Max Earth — 10″ Wide-Plank European White Oak

A saturated warm golden-brown with the depth and richness of seasoned oak. Earth is the floor for traditional Houston interiors that want a real, committed warm tone.

Earth is the floor under the libraries, the wood-paneled studies, and the formal dining rooms of old-Houston. It's the deepest warm color in the Riva Max range before you commit to a stained look, and it's the spec when the client says "I want my floor to look like a floor" — meaning rich, warm, and unapologetically wood.

The Earth palette

Earth sits in the deeper-warm range of Riva Max — distinctly darker than Sand, considerably warmer than Mercury. The color reads as a rich golden-brown with the saturated character of seasoned European oak. Under daylight Earth holds its warmth without going orange; under warm LED it deepens into a glowing amber-brown. This is the floor that announces itself.

Heavy character grade is the showcase here — Earth's deeper base tone gives knots and mineral streaks dramatic visual weight, making each plank feel hand-selected. The color forgives wear (foot traffic, pet claws, sun fade) better than the lighter Riva Max colors, which is why custom-home builders specify Earth for high-use family zones.

Where Earth shines

Where Earth lands in Houston:

Pairing notes for designers

Cabinetry pairings

Earth supports the full range of traditional cabinetry — stained walnut, dark alder, distressed white, antique brass, and any warm-painted casework. It pairs especially well with stained dark woods at a comparable depth (walnut, mahogany, cherry). Earth struggles only with cool-gray modern cabinets — the temperature conflict is too sharp. If the client wants modern cool cabinets, move to Smoke for similar depth in the cool family.

Wall and trim

Earth supports warm whites (BM "Swiss Coffee," "White Dove"), warm beiges, deep greens (BM "Salamander," "Backwoods"), and the burgundy-and-terra-cotta family. Cream trim is the correct call here; pure-white trim against Earth reads jarring. Stained-wood trim can disappear into Earth's depth — a designer move for paneled rooms.

Plank-width considerations

At 10 inches wide, Earth is in the wide-plank category — which carries specific design implications. See our wide-plank vs. narrow-plank guide for the full breakdown. Short version: wide-plank reads more open in large rooms but can overwhelm smaller spaces. For rooms under 12 feet wide, consider whether 10″ is right or if you'd be better served by a narrower Riva collection.

Install method + acclimation

Earth is engineered construction, accepting all three install methods — glue-down, float, or nail-down — depending on your subfloor. For Houston slab-on-grade homes (~70% of new builds), glue-down with a quality moisture-mitigation primer is the standard. For raised-foundation homes with plywood subfloor, nail-down or glue-down both work; nail-down is faster.

Critically: Earth, like every wide-plank European Oak in Houston, must be properly acclimated before install. Plan on 5 to 10 days of in-home acclimation with HVAC running at occupied conditions before the first plank goes down. We document moisture readings at delivery, day 3, and day 7. Skipping this step is the most common cause of failed installs in Houston — see our full Houston humidity acclimation guide for the trade-spec process.

How Earth compares to its siblings

The Riva Max collection includes 10 colors across the tonal range. Here's where Earth sits relative to its closest neighbors:

Sand

One step lighter — pick Sand if Earth feels too saturated for the room.

Amber

One step deeper with stronger amber-caramel notes.

Earth (you are here)

The golden-brown earth.

Smoke

Same depth, opposite temperature — the cool-side equivalent.

For more saturated warmth, see Amber or Cigar. For lighter warm, see Sand.

Trade availability

Earth is a steady-velocity color in our traditional and custom-residential portfolio — held in continuous Houston inventory with typical lead time of 3–7 business days for trade orders under 2,000 sqft. Custom-home and restoration orders ship from Riva Spain in 8–12 weeks.

Earth is included in the standard quarterly trade sample kit. 5″ × 10″ board delivery within 48 hours for spec deadlines — recommended to pull a sample under both daylight and warm LED, since Earth's read varies more than the lighter Riva Max colors.
