Custom parquet flooring — Versailles, Chantilly, and hand-cut marquetry.
Pre-assembled European Oak parquet panels for Houston designers, architects, and hospitality projects that want patterned hardwood beyond chevron and herringbone. Custom-milled at Riva Spain to your dimension, grade, and finish spec.
Six parquet patterns we mill regularly for Houston projects.
Each pattern is custom-milled into pre-assembled panels (typically 24"×24" or 30"×30"). Panels install like oversized tiles — faster than hand-laid parquet, designer-grade tolerance, and the pattern reads correctly across large rooms.
Versailles
Square panel with central diamond + woven border. The most-spec'd custom parquet for Houston traditional foyers and formal dining. Reads heritage, French-château. Typically 30"×30" panels.
Chantilly
More geometric than Versailles — square panel with star and diamond geometry. A modernized historic pattern that works in transitional Houston interiors.
Basketweave
Alternating horizontal/vertical plank pairs forming a basket-weave block. Strong for dining rooms, libraries, and small foyers. Reads more contemporary than Versailles.
Diamond / Lozenge
Geometric diamond panels — clean, modernist. Designer-favorite for primary suite vestibules and entry alcoves. Works particularly well at 24"×24" scale.
Hand-cut marquetry
Fully custom marquetry — heraldic, monogram, custom geometric. Designed in collaboration with your architect or designer, hand-cut at the Riva Spain workshop. 14-week lead, premium spec.
Border + accent strips
Custom-milled accent borders for any pattern (or any plank install) — contrasting wood species, brass inlay, custom width. Transitions between rooms or as feature strips at scale.
How custom parquet works — design through install.
Custom parquet is a 12-week minimum process from spec to delivered Houston warehouse. Below is the typical flow for Houston designer + architect projects.
1 · Design consult (Week 1)
Walk-through of the space, pattern selection, dimension planning, finish selection. Designer or architect-led; we coordinate with Riva Spain workshop on feasibility.
2 · CAD + sample (Weeks 2-3)
Riva Spain produces a CAD layout showing panel-to-panel pattern continuity across the room. A physical sample panel (single panel, custom finish) ships to your studio for sign-off.
3 · Production (Weeks 4-9)
Custom milling at Riva Spain's Spanish workshop. Each panel hand-assembled and quality-controlled before container shipment.
4 · Houston delivery (Week 10-11)
Container clears US customs at Houston port, delivers to our Colquitt Street warehouse. Inventory inspection + acclimation pre-positioning.
5 · Install + finish (Week 12+)
NWFA-trained pattern install crew installs panels with custom transitions and borders. Site-finishing (if unfinished) or final inspection (if pre-finished).
6 · Closeout documentation
Photo documentation, maintenance + warranty docs, custom-piece replacement SKUs cataloged for future patch work.
The Houston projects that justify custom parquet's premium.
Custom parquet runs $45-90+ per sq ft material-only, plus pattern install labor. The clients who spec it have a specific project case in mind:
Heritage estate restorations
River Oaks pre-war estates, Boulevard Oaks historic homes, Memorial classical builds — projects where the original floor was Versailles or hand-cut parquet and the renovation needs to match or extend it.
Hospitality flagship lobbies
Boutique hotels, members clubs, fine-dining flagships — where the floor is a published architectural element and the client wants a custom monogram, heraldic, or custom-geometric pattern.
Statement foyers + entry alcoves
3,000-15,000 sq ft estate foyers where the parquet medallion or pattern is the architectural anchor of the entry sequence.
Formal dining + library
Designer-specced libraries with paneled millwork where the floor pattern reads as part of the room's architecture, not a backdrop.
Brand HQ + private offices
Custom corporate spaces (private equity, family office, boutique hospitality HQ) where the founders want a signature floor element.
Wine cellar + tasting rooms
Climate-controlled cellars with deep European oak parquet — Versailles or Chantilly in stained dark oak reads as classical European wine country.
Common parquet questions from Houston designers + architects.
Can custom parquet install over Houston slab-on-grade?
Yes — engineered parquet panels install glue-down to slab with moisture-mitigation primer, same as engineered plank. We document the substrate prep + acclimation per NWFA standards.
What's the minimum project size for custom parquet?
Practical minimum is ~150 sq ft (one room) due to the custom production setup. Below that, hand-installed parquet from off-the-shelf plank may make more sense — we can scope that with you.
Can the pattern be tweaked or fully custom?
Versailles, Chantilly, basketweave, and diamond are repeating patterns we mill regularly — small modifications (panel size, plank width within the pattern, finish) are standard. Fully custom marquetry (heraldic, monogram, custom geometric) is a separate 14-week design + production track.
Who installs custom parquet in Houston?
NWFA-trained pattern install crews. We have an in-house team and partner installers we trust for pattern work — your channel rep matches the crew to your project scale and schedule.
How does custom parquet handle wear + refinishing?
4mm wear-layer European Oak takes 2-3 light refinishes over its 30-50 year lifecycle. Pattern alignment after refinish requires NWFA-trained finisher — we maintain a Houston referral list.
What's the cost difference between Versailles and Chantilly?
Versailles is typically 5-15% more than Chantilly due to the central diamond's milling complexity. Hand-cut marquetry is 50-150% more than either, depending on design complexity.
